It can be due to many reasons, one of which can be women who have detected to have an abnormal fetus. Eg. Down syndrome, neural tube defect.

We require the consent/signature of 2 registered medical officers to be able to do the termination between 12 to 20 weeks.

The procedure is always done in a hospital or nursing home that is licensed for this purpose.

12 to 20 weeks of the Abortion process

Below are the steps for medical abortion with us:

The process will start with Gynecological consultation and check-up.
We will confirm the size of the pregnancy.
We will confirm the indication for which termination is being done.
The patient is then admitted to the hospital or nursing home that is chosen by her.
The patient will usually require 2 to 3 days in the hospital.
The necessary informed written consent is taken.
The necessary signatures, of registered medical practitioners, are taken.
We will perform the pre-procedure blood tests.
The procedure is then initiated with medicines. The medicines will stimulate contractions and lead to the expulsion of the fetus in most cases. The placenta then follows. Once the placenta and the fetus are completely expelled then the procedure is complete.
Occasionally the placenta and fetus may remain behind and may require surgical removal. In that case, the patient is taken to the operation theater and the fetus and/or placenta are removed under anesthesia.
Once the procedure is complete the patient will need rest in the hospital for a few hours, sometimes for a day.
She is usually given analgesics and antibiotics after the procedure.
She is also given medication to suppress the lactation as it may start in some patients.
Contraception can also be discussed if required and we can help you choose a method that best suits your needs.
The patient is discharged usually within 12 to 24 hours.

How can I use sugar to terminate a pregnancy?

Sugar cannot terminate a pregnancy. It is not wise to try such methods. Mifepristone and Misoprostol are available to terminate a pregnancy and they are effective and safe. By trying to abort with sugar one will waste precious time and delay taking tablets and thereby compromise on the success of the tablets.

Can abortion fail?

Yes, there is a small chance of the abortion tablets not working and the pregnancy may continue. This is more likely to happen at 4 weeks plus. In India, abortion tablets can be taken only up to 7 weeks, though in some countries they are provided till 9 weeks. Failure is also likely closer to 7 weeks.

Can abortion make you infertile?

Abortion with tablets does not influence fertility. Abortion tablets do not affect the ovaries and hormones. Multiple surgical terminations can affect fertility. Pregnancies that are more than 7 weeks need dilatation and suction evacuation. During this procedure, the endometrial lining is denuded. If Dilatation and curettage are done multiple times, then the lining may get damaged and can affect future fertility.

Can abortion cause PCOS?

No, not at all. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a metabolic syndrome and is affected by weight and lifestyle. Patients with PCOS have difficulty in getting pregnant and usually seek help to conceive.

Can abortion cause PTSD (Post Treatment Stress Disorder)?

Abortions can be very traumatic emotionally to the woman/couple undergoing it. It depends on the reason for which abortion is done. E.g financial constraints, social reasons, abnormal fetus, etc.

In these cases, the pregnancy may be very much wanted but circumstances have led to an abortion. The woman may then have depression and other psychological symptoms.

Can abortion cause ectopic pregnancy?

Surgical abortions, especially in unsterile conditions, can lead to infections. Infections can damage the tubes and therefore increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy. Abortions with tablets are not likely to influence the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Can abortion cause PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)?

Surgical abortions when done in unhygienic and unsterile conditions can cause infections and these can eventually lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. Women who have pre-existing vaginal infections have a risk of infections spreading to the pelvis after a surgical termination.

Can abortion cause hormonal imbalance?

Abortions do not influence the functioning of the HPO axis and the ovaries. Therefore are not likely to cause hormonal imbalance.

Can abortion pill cause infertility?

Abortion tablets do not affect fertility. The first tablet only stops the pregnancy from growing and the second one only starts a period. They do not have a long term effect on the body.

Abortions will not cause HPV infections. HPV is sexually transmitted.

The process of abortion per se will not cause ovarian cyst. During pregnancy, there is a corpus luteum cyst in one of the ovaries from where the follicle came.
